Spina Bifida Clinic
The Spina Bifida Clinic offers a full spectrum of services designed to improve the lives of children with spina bifida and their families. Experts provide care in a wide range of specialties.
Expert, Personalized Care for Spina Bifida
Only 37 centers have earned the Clinic Care Partner designation from the Spina Bifida Association — and Phoenix Children’s is one of them. This designation means that we meet the 10 clinic care standards identified as best practices to care for people with spina bifida. We also have the Spina Bifida Research Collaborative to leverage our best and brightest providers in innovative patient care solutions.
We care for patients and their families from before birth through young adulthood. Our specialists are committed to personalizing care for your child’s specific needs. We use specialized imaging to diagnose spina bifida, and the latest techniques to treat and manage your child’s condition. If your child is diagnosed before birth, we can determine if a prenatal procedure is the right path for you to take and help organize a consultation with a center that provides this procedure. We are experts in connecting our patients and families with resources to obtain the medicines, therapies and equipment they need to thrive.
We consider it an honor to care for children with spina bifida, and we look forward to meeting you and your child.
Support with the Transition to Adult Care
Most children with spina bifida typically have their first visit at the Spina Bifida Clinic within their first months of life. After their first visit, we see them at least once each year. As they approach adolescence, we offer care in our Transition Clinic, which is for patients 14–21 years old.
We are also committed to caring for patients beyond the transition period and into young adulthood. Our clinic sees existing patients until age 26.
Our transition team includes a nurse and social worker who help patients move from pediatric to adult care.
