PHOENIX [December 22, 2025] – Phoenix Children’s has been selected as a December Hospital of the Month for its ongoing commitment to patient and employee safety. This recognition comes from Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS), a leading network working to eliminate serious harm in children’s hospitals.
Phoenix Children’s is an active participant in SPS — a first-of-its-kind collaboration with more than 140 children’s hospitals across the United States and Canada. The network relies on transparent sharing of data, successes and best practices among participating hospitals, employing an “all teach, all learn” approach. By developing effective prevention standards, creating a high-reliability culture and partnering with patient families, participating hospitals, including Phoenix Children’s, are strengthening safety efforts and improving outcomes within pediatric care.
“At Phoenix Children’s, safety is paramount. We follow a ‘Safety II’ framework, empowering our teams to model safe behaviors and recognize the everyday actions that protect patients and improve outcomes,” said Kelly Kelleher, MD, chief quality and safety officer and associate chief medical officer. “Our involvement with SPS guides our ongoing efforts to enhance safety, quality and the overall care we provide.”
Error Prevention is a core SPS value and focuses on a culture of safety and providing staff with valuable tools to help them prevent harm. As one of its key safety initiatives, Phoenix Children’s offers Error Prevention training for all staff to establish safety expectations and minimize human error. Additional tools employed at Phoenix Children’s and endorsed by SPS are proactive safety huddles and simulation, supporting its relentless pursuit of zero harm.
In August 2025, Phoenix Children’s earned the ISO 9001:2015 certification, an internationally recognized standard for high-quality, consistent and safe care. This achievement demonstrates the health system’s commitment to clear standards and shared goals that support staff in delivering exceptional care, every time.
