I help families feel confident and prepared to take home their children with medically complex health conditions. I also help them understand their child’s diagnosis and care needs, so they can clearly communicate important medical information to healthcare professionals if their child needs to return to the hospital or seek emergency care.
About Amanda L. Richardson, PNP
Amanda Richardson, PNP-AC, is a pediatric nurse practitioner and the lead advanced practice provider in the Division of Cardiology at Phoenix Children's. She cares for children and supports their families throughout recovery after cardiac surgery, providing close monitoring, education and guidance to help ensure a safe transition home. She also provides medical management for hospitalized children with congenital heart disease who do not require care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.
Amanda earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Arizona State University in Tempe and her Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.
In addition to her clinical leadership responsibilities, Amanda is leading a research project examining the relationship between platelet inhibition and thrombosis rates in patients with single-ventricle heart disease. She is also part of a multidisciplinary team developing a tool to assess discharge readiness. The tool is designed to streamline education for patients and families, help bedside staff identify educational needs, improve patient outcomes, and reduce hospital stays.
Outside of work, Amanda enjoys traveling, hiking, reading, attending live music events and cheering on her two daughters from the sidelines of the softball field.
