Eiri Kisamori, MD, PhD

Eiri Kisamori, MD, PhD, is a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon at Phoenix Children's. Dr. Kisamori has specialized training and skills to surgically treat an extensive range of cardiothoracic conditions that impact infants, children and adolescents. He has clinical expertise in neonatal surgery, infant surgery, valve surgery, aortic surgery, single-ventricle and biventricular repair, adult congenital surgery, heart transplant surgery and ventricular assist device (VAD) placement.

After earning his medical degree from Kagoshima University School of Medicine in Kagoshima, Japan, Dr. Kisamori completed his surgical residency training at Okayama University Hospital in Okayama, Japan. He trained as a fellow in cardiovascular surgery at Iwakuni Clinical Center in Iwakuni, Japan, as a pediatric cardiovascular surgery fellow at Okayama University Hospital, and as a pediatric cardiac surgery fellow at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C. Dr. Kisamori also completed a clinical research fellowship at the National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center in Osaka, Japan, and earned a doctor of philosophy degree from the Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Okayama.

Prior to joining the team at Phoenix Children's, Dr. Kisamori served as a pediatric cardiac surgery clinical instructor at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York. He is also the author of a chapter in Anderson's Pediatric Cardiology, a leading textbook for pediatric cardiology.

Dr. Kisamori has presented research about procedures to treat congenital heart defects at annual meetings of The American Association for Thoracic Surgery and The Society of Thoracic Surgeons. His peer-reviewed research is published in journals including the Annals of Cardiothoracic Surgery, The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the European Heart Journal. Dr. Kisamori serves on the editorial board of the journal Cardiovascular Surgery and Interventions and is a member of the Japan Cardiovascular Surgical Society, the Japan Surgical Society and the Japanese Association for Thoracic Surgery.

Outside of work, Dr. Kisamori enjoys watching NBA games and relaxing with his cat.
