About Funda S. Bachini, MD
Dr. Funda Bachini serves as division chief of psychiatry and the inpatient psychiatric unit medical director. While her specific area of focus is treating children with early developmental trauma, she enjoys working with all families and children to improve and enhance their mental health as part of a comprehensive approach to their well-being. She is part of the Center for Resiliency and Wellbeing, where she provides consultation and care to vulnerable patients and families who have experienced trauma. Dr. Bachini also works to integrate care with community agencies to help promote continuity of care for patients.
Dr. Bachini joined Phoenix Children's in 2015 as a staff psychiatrist. She was drawn to Phoenix Children's because of their shared goal to improve the quality of life, both physically and emotionally, for children with mental health concerns. Today, Dr. Bachini manages the Psychiatry Faculty Learning Community, which trains and empowers community pediatricians to diagnose and manage some behavioral health conditions, helping patients get the care they need in a timely manner.
With expertise in teaching medical students, residents and fellows, Dr. Bachini serves as an associate clinical professor at both Creighton University School of Medicine and the University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix. Dr. Bachini is also an instructor in pediatrics at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Phoenix.
Her work in the behavioral health field began in 2001. She worked in social service programs, behavioral health hospitals and schools which provided her the opportunity to see children in various stages of development and in varied life circumstances. It was during these experiences that her fascination with the brain and human behavior evolved into a passion for helping children and their families.
After attending Drexel University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Dr. Bachini completed both her residency and child and adolescent fellowship at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona. She currently holds board certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology for children, adolescents and adults.
Her professional affiliations include the American Psychiatric Association, Arizona Medical Association, Arizona Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists, and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
Serving as an advocate for children and their families, Dr. Bachini strives to help parents, educators and all those in a child's world come to understand the unique circumstances that have shaped the child's mind and continue to influence their behaviors. Through speaking at conferences and in the community, she hopes to help destigmatize mental health issues and empower children and their families.
When not at work, Dr. Bachini enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
