About Julie A. Augenstein, MD

Julie A. Augenstein, MD, is a pediatric emergency medicine physician and medical director of Phoenix Children's Emergency Medical Services Base Hospital Program and the Critical Care Transport Program. Dr. Augenstein has extensive training and skills to assess, diagnose and treat a wide range of pediatric emergency conditions, injuries and illnesses. She is also experienced in using specialized equipment to ensure the unique needs of pediatric patients are met. Her clinical focus and expertise also include prehospital care and simulation training.

Dr. Augenstein earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona, before graduating with her medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine, also in Tucson. She completed an internship and residency training in pediatric medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and Weill Cornell Medical College in New York City, as well as a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Seattle Children's Hospital and the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Augenstein is board certified in general pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine by the American Board of Pediatrics.

Appointed by the Governor of Arizona, Dr. Augenstein holds the role of physician specializing in pediatric medicine on the Medical Direction Commission at the Arizona Department of Health Services. She also serves on the Trauma and EMS Performance Improvement (TEPI) Committee and is the Phoenix Children's Emergency Medical Services and Prehospital Care Conference chair and director.

Named a Top Doc by PHOENIX magazine, Dr. Augenstein is also active in training new physicians as a faculty member at the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine-Phoenix, the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix and Creighton Medical School-Phoenix. Her peer-reviewed research has been featured in publications including the Journal of Emergency Medicine, the Journal of Pediatric Emergency Care and Critical Care Medicine, among others.

Dr. Augenstein spends her free time at her family farm and playing tennis.
