About Nehal H. Thakkar, MD
Nehal Thakkar, MD, MBA, is a pediatric hospitalist at Phoenix Children's. She cares for children with a wide range of medical conditions requiring hospitalization and has expertise in both pediatric hospital medicine and medical education. Dr. Thakkar is passionate about creating a safe, supportive environment where families feel heard and engaged in their child's care, and where medical learners feel empowered to grow and effectively care for their patients.
Dr. Thakkar earned her medical degree from Albany Medical College in Albany, New York, and her MBA from Union Graduate College in Schenectady, New York. She completed residency training in general pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia, followed by a fellowship in pediatric hospital medicine at Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, Texas.
In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Thakkar plays a leading role in training the next generation of pediatric hospitalists as program director of the pediatric hospital medicine fellowship at Phoenix Children's. She has presented nationally on medical education, faculty development, patient-centered care and advocacy.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Thakkar enjoys traveling, exploring restaurants, baking, party planning and spending time with family and friends.
