At the end of this presentation, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the increased risks of infertility among physicians and identify strategies to support reproductive health and fertility.
  • Identify the unique challenges and risks faced by pregnant physicians and trainees and discuss workplace accommodations that can promote safer pregnancies and reduce complications.
  • Understand the importance of parental leave and lactation support for physicians and trainees and identify available workplace protections and resources.

Division Chief, Urology | Phoenix Children’s

Dr. Gwen Grimsby is Division Chief of Urology at Phoenix Children’s and was the first female pediatric urologist in Arizona, joining the Division of Urology in 2015. She earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, completed her urology residency at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, and pursued fellowship training in pediatric urology at Children’s Medical Center/University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

She serves as Clerkship Director for rotating residents at Phoenix Children’s and is a member of the Governance Council and Peer Review Committees. She is also an Associate Professor of Urology at Mayo Clinic, the University of Arizona, and Creighton University. She has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, with research interests including spina bifida and neurogenic bladder, transition to adult urology, access to circumcision, opioid stewardship, physician wellness and burnout, parental leave, and advancing equity for women in medicine. Dr. Grimsby is an active member of Phoenix Children’s multidisciplinary cloaca clinic and founded the Urology Transition Clinic for young adults with congenital urologic conditions. She is also a founding member of the Phoenix Children’s Women’s Surgical Collaborative, dedicated to recruiting, supporting, and advancing women surgeons. Nationally, she serves on the Society of Women in Urology Board, is a graduate of the 2023–2024 American Urological Association Leadership Program and serves on the AUA Health Advancement and Improvement Committee. She has participated in ten medical missions to Ecuador, Haiti, and Peru.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Grimsby enjoys yoga, travel, cheering on the Arizona Cardinals as a longtime season ticket holder, and spending time with her husband, daughter, and three dogs.
