The Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Training Program at Phoenix Children's is a comprehensive 36-month ACGME-accredited program focused on providing fellows with the necessary skills and knowledge to offer optimal care for pediatric patients with rheumatic diseases. The program ensures a balanced mix of clinical training and research activities over the three years, with adequate exposure to both inpatient and outpatient settings to meet educational requirements.
During the program, fellows gain practical clinical experience through rotations in both settings. The first year is clinically intensive, helping fellows to build fundamental skills in managing rheumatic diseases in pediatric patients. This includes direct interactions with multidisciplinary teams and access to advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies.
Fellows also benefit from an environment that provides exposure to a wide range of patients, from infants to young adults, ensuring a comprehensive learning experience in pediatric rheumatology. In addition to clinical practice, the program emphasizes research and access to specialized reference materials, including extensive electronic medical literature databases.
Our faculty are dedicated to modeling professionalism and providing safe, equitable, high-quality, cost-effective, patient-centered care. They mentor fellows in applying scientific principles, epidemiology, biostatistics and evidence-based medicine in their clinical practice. The faculty comprises certified pediatric rheumatologists and other specialists who meet the qualifications of the Review Committee.
Furthermore, the program allows fellows to collaborate with a diverse group of professionals, including child life therapists, dieticians, mental health professionals and more, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to training that prepares fellows for various career paths in pediatric rheumatology.
