Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease (EGID) Clinic

Around 600 children with eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease depend on our multidisciplinary team of experts for testing and care. We offer specialized resources and services to help them thrive.

Advanced Testing and Procedures

Advanced diagnostic testing helps our team diagnose and monitor your child’s condition. Many of the tests we offer are minimally invasive and available at only a small number of children’s hospitals nationwide.

Some of the procedures our team may schedule for children with EGID include:

Evaluates how well the esophagus contracts and pushes food into the stomach.

Involves having the child swallow a string attached to a capsule. The string absorbs unique proteins of eosinophils to help doctors diagnose EGID.

A technique that stretches or opens portions of the esophagus that are too narrow.

Evaluates acid and nonacid reflux from the stomach into the esophagus.

A minimally invasive test that uses a thin, flexible tube with a light and camera on the end. The physician inserts the tube through the nose and down the throat to view damage in the esophagus.

Ongoing Support and Resources

  • Educational resouces, such as What to Expect from Your EvoEndo Sedation-Free Endoscopy
  • A support group for families living with EGID.
  • Information about clinical research studies that are enrolling patients at Phoenix Children’s. This may allow your child to receive emerging therapies that are not available elsewhere.
