The Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disease (EGID) Clinic at Phoenix Children's provides specialized, multidisciplinary care for children with this rare condition. We sometimes refer to it as the EOE clinic, since most of the children we see have the most common form of EGID, eosinophilic esophagitis (EOE).
Phoenix Children’s is the only hospital in Arizona offering this high level of care for children with EGID. A specialized, multidisciplinary approach is critical, because EGID is a complex condition that can lead to other health issues, such as eczema and allergies. At every visit, your child will see a:
- Pediatric gastroenterologist
- Allergy/immunology physician
- Registered dietitian
Appointments in the EGID Clinic are very thorough, with first visits often lasting two to three hours. Our team will develop a well-coordinated, unified treatment plan for your child. In addition, our nursing team will provide extensive education to help you understand what EGID is and how to manage it. As needs arise, our experienced team can refer you to other providers, such as a psychologist or feeding specialist. It’s all part of our commitment to making sure your child receives the best possible care.
Your child’s treatment plan may include diet changes or steroids or both. Diet changes can involve elimination diets (removing certain foods from your child’s diet entirely). Treatment helps the symptoms of EGID but does not provide a cure.
Our physicians are actively involved in EGID research to advance understanding of this rare disease. Your child may be able to participate in clinical research studies that provide access to emerging therapies before they are available elsewhere.
