Liver Transplant
A liver transplant is a surgical procedure that replaces a diseased liver with a healthy liver from another person. A liver transplant involves the care of many specialists and staff members including pediatric surgeons, hepatologists, transplant coordinators, gastroenterologist, intensivists, radiologists, nurses, anesthesiologists and nutritionists.
Our well-rounded, family-centered care also involves social workers, psychologists, school teachers, Child Life specialists and many other support services. Plus, our kid-friendly hospital campus has an uplifting environment full of light and color with private patient rooms, family areas, playrooms, food services, a rooftop garden and playground.
The Pediatric Liver Transplant Program is part of Hepatology and Gastroenterology and is certified by United Network for Organ Sharing for cadaveric liver transplants.
With You Every Step of the Way
Aftercare is vital to the health of a liver transplant patient. Our team works in collaboration with your primary care physician to assure that all medical needs are addressed moving forward.
We also develop long-term relationships with you and your child to make sure your child has the best chance for a long, healthy life. Some patients may experience difficulties adapting to this life-changing medical experience, and our psycho-social programs and staff specialize in dealing with these issues. Once your child reaches adulthood, we will help you transition care to an adult facility.
