About the Emily Center

Founded in 1990, the Emily Center is named after a former patient at Phoenix Children’s, Emily Anderson. Emily fought a rare form of leukemia for four years. She passed away a few days before her 7th birthday.

During Emily’s illness, her parents struggled to find information about her disease that was easy to understand. They founded the Emily Center so that other families with sick children would always have access to simple, accurate and free health information.

A Medical Library for Patient Education

Anyone, including the public, can come to the Emily Center at Phoenix Children’s or call to request information. You’ll find:

  • Highly skilled nurses who can help with research for families and professionals
  • Thousands of books, pamphlets and recent articles on children’s health, in both English and Spanish
  • Resources on all children’s health issues as common as bedwetting or as rare as Rett syndrome
  • Computers to view online medical information from the nation’s most reliable sources of pediatric health information
  • Interactive learning stations
  • A section for kids where they can learn about their own health issues or about an illness of a sibling or friend
