Focus Areas in Research

Biologic Materials Availability Program

The Biologic Materials Availability Program (BMAP) at Phoenix Children’s, under the direction of Jorge Arango, MD, and David Carpenteri, MD, is an initiative aimed to provide investigators with biological materials for research and/or the means to access them.

The program collects a variety of tissues and bio-fluids that are on their vast majority otherwise discarded, these include surplus tissues from anatomic pathology and the clinical laboratory and/or discarding materials accessed through surgery or bedside procedures and devices.

The neuroscientific division of BMAP is the most active area of sample collection and processing. The creation of a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) bank has made this division a leading entity in research support due to the variety of the CSF collected. The relatively wide spectrum of neurological conditions for which CSF is available has promoted associations with investigators and institutions working with advance molecular techniques, including:
