Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program
Research and quality improvement projects at Phoenix Children’s help advance our understanding of inflammatory bowel diseases and develop better therapies for children with these conditions.
Phoenix Children’s participates in Improve Care Now, an international quality improvement movement and research network working toward improved health for children with IBD. Being part of Improve Care Now allows us to be involved in national research studies and introduce new quality measures in our clinics that lead to better outcomes for kids with IBD.
Our current research and quality improvement efforts focus on areas such as:
- Evaluating the safety and effectiveness of various new small-molecule drugs and biologics in treating children with IBD
- Understanding why young people stop using biologic drugs for their IBD symptoms
- Evaluating a novel technique of studying the microbiome in children with IBD
- Working with dermatology providers at Phoenix Children’s to better understand skin conditions associated with IBD
- Collaborating with our surgery colleagues to review and publish our outcomes
- Participating in multi-center studies to evaluate fistulizing disease
Patients who participate in these studies sometimes have access to treatments that are not widely available. Talk to your child’s doctor to learn more about research and quality improvement projects at Phoenix Children’s.
