Multidisciplinary Clinics & Services
- Fetal Care Center: This center offers specialized care for a wide variety of conditions affecting unborn babies and newborns, including kidney conditions. Our nephrologists and other specialists provide prenatal consults with the family to establish a care plan before the baby’s birth.
- Fontan Clinic: This clinic, located in the Phoenix Children’s Heart Center, provides comprehensive care for children with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and other conditions that lead to a Fontan procedure, which can affect the kidneys.
- CARE Clinic: This clinic is led by endocrinologists at Phoenix Children’s and treats children who have secondary medical effects to obesity. Nephrologists are part of the multidisciplinary care team.
- Kidney Stone Clinic: Providers in this clinic may include pediatric urologists and nephrologists, who focus on kidney stone treatment and prevention.
- Spina Bifida Clinic: Phoenix Children’s offers comprehensive care for children with spina bifida, a birth defect where the baby’s spinal column doesn’t form correctly in the womb. This condition can affect bladder and bowel control. The clinic involves members of the nephrology, urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery and general surgery teams.
Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring
When a child has hypertension, chronic kidney disease or a new kidney, it’s essential to monitor their blood pressure. Taking a child’s blood pressure during a clinic appointment is helpful, but it can be more effective to test their blood pressure over a 24-hour period.
That’s why Phoenix Children’s offers 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. If your child’s doctor recommends this, your child will receive a blood pressure monitor during a clinic appointment. A nurse will teach you and your child how to use it. Your child will return home and wear the monitor for 24 hours, and you will return the equipment the next day. Our team will read the results and let you know the results.

Dialysis is a lifesaving therapy for people with end-stage kidney disease. Our Dialysis Program is the only hospital in Arizona with a dedicated dialysis unit for children and teens. We offer:

- Peritoneal dialysis
- Continuous renal replacement therapy (inpatient only)

Support Services
The pediatric nephrology team works closely with local organizations that enrich the lives of children with kidney disease.
- Make-A-Wish Foundation: Our team can connect families to Make-A-Wish Arizona which creates life-changing experiences for children with critical illnesses.
- Camp Kidney: These two camps let kids with kidney disease simply be kids! Both camps are located in Prescott, Ariz., and offer fun camp experiences, along with full medical support from a team of volunteers, many of whom work at Phoenix Children’s.
