Translational Research

Laboratory research is an integral component of Phoenix Children's Research Institute (PCRI) scientific approach.

Pediatric patients are stricken with devastating common and rare diseases that hold little or no curative promise from current understanding and available treatments. To confront this grave reality, Phoenix Children's Research Institute (PCRI) has several laboratories conducting research that seeks to further understanding of the mechanism of neurological diseases and cancer.

  • The Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) Lab is focused on the research and development of pediatric cancers in AML, neuroblastoma and others malignancies with a goal of developing advanced diagnostic technologies and the translation of those technologies into clinical application.
  • The Neurogenetics Lab studies the molecular and cellular basis of cerebral palsy (CP) and related movement disorders. Their goal is to develop a personalized medicine approach to care by combining genomic insights with studies designed to develop new therapies.
  • The Neurotrauma Lab is focused on biomedical research advances knowledge and improvement in understanding of pediatric neurological injury, traumatic brain injury, epilepsy, spinal cord injury, and stroke disease processes so that healthcare providers can improve patient care and quality of life for patients and their families.
  • The Cardiac 3D Print Lab is focused on translational research utilizing the latest in image processing, 3D visualization, and 3D printing for surgical planning, interventional planning, medical education and family consultation for patients with congenital or acquired heart disease.
  • The Pediatric Infectious Disease Lab is focused on diagnostic, treatment and preventative measures for common conditions affecting pediatric patients, their families and public health.
