Clinics and Consult Services

Our Dermatology Division offers team-based clinics and services, bringing multiple specialties together. We ensure your child and teen gets the correct diagnosis and all appropriate testing and treatment options.

Dermatology team members also help care for children who are being treated in Phoenix Children’s Center for Cancer & Blood Disorders. Our dermatologists work with the Bone Marrow Transplant team to help patients with chronic graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD) and during Survivor Clinic after transplant.

Procedures and Surgical Services

Our dermatologists perform a wide range of surgeries and procedures to treat conditions of the skin, hair and nails. If you know that your child will need surgical services, let the dermatology scheduling team know when you make your appointment. Our team may need to evaluate your child at your first visit, so surgery may require additional visits. We’ll talk to you about whether a surgery or procedure is appropriate and what to expect. We may also need to confirm coverage and benefits with your health insurance.

Some of the procedures we commonly perform include:

  • Botox for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Cyst removal
  • Excisions (surgical removal)
  • Laser treatments
  • Nail procedures
  • Phototherapy – narrow-band ultraviolet B (NBUVB)
  • Scar treatments, such as removing keloid scars
  • Skin biopsies
  • Treatment of warts and molluscum

Preparing for a Successful Office Visit

How can you best prepare for your child’s upcoming dermatology visit? Here are some tips:

  • Make sure you have the required intake paperwork which is sent electronically prior to the appointment. Fill out clinic forms before you come to save time and help the providers know about your child prior to arrival.
  • Arrive early to allow time for parking and check-in.
  • Bring snacks, books or quiet toys to keep your child busy while you wait.
  • Make sure a legal guardian accompanies your child. (Medical power of attorney documentation is required if anyone other than a legal guardian will be the caregiver attending the visit.)
  • Bring along your child’s current prescription medications and over-the-counter skin care products or medications, make a list or take photos of these items.
  • Bring any records from other hospitals or clinics, including any biopsy reports, radiology test results, office visits or hospitalization notes.
  • Check Phoenix Children’s current COVID-19 restrictions.
  • If you need to reschedule your visit, please try to do so at least 24 hours in advance
