Summer Volunteer Program FAQ's
When does the information about the Summer Program become available?
Due to COVID-19, the 2021 Summer Volunteer Program has been cancelled. We expect the program to resume for Summer 2022. Information will be posted here no later than February 1st, 2022.
Is there anything available for teens under age eighteen?
Normally, teens 13-15 have the opportunity to participate in project sessions that are scheduled during the Summer. The COVID-19 pandemic may affect scheduling the projects this year, so updates will be posted here. The projects are designed to be fun and helpful to patients at the hospital. Teens 16 and older are always eligible for the Phoenix Children's In-Hospital Volunteer program year round. Please note that there is typically a waiting list due to the limited number of teen positions.
What is the commitment for the Summer Program? Is the commitment the same as the regular in-hospital program?
Although the 2021 Summer program is cancelled due to COVID-19, it normally is seven weeks and begins in June. The orientation process and training are similar, but done on a different schedule. Participants are college students and volunteer three shifts per week, for two to four hours per shift during the seven week program.
