Advanced Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging

Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship

Phoenix Children’s Center for Heart Care is now offering a funded 4th year Advanced Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging Fellowship position. This is a one-year program offering training in advanced transthoracic, transesophageal, 3-dimensional, fetal echo imaging and cross-sectional imaging. 

Eligibility and How to Apply:  Deadline for application submission for the 2025-2026 academic year will be July 15, 2024.  Candidates who have completed an ACGME accredited three-year pediatric cardiology categorical fellowship by the start of July 2025 will be considered. Interested applicants should email their CV, 3 letters of recommendation (including their fellowship program director), and a personal statement to the Program Administrator. Interviews will be virtual and extended via email on a rolling basis starting in August 2024.  Decisions will be communicated no later than early October 2024.

The Phoenix Children’s Advanced Noninvasive Cardiac Imaging Fellowship is designed to provide one year of subspecialty training for a physician who has successfully completed a three-year categorical pediatric cardiology fellowship. This training will encompass advanced training in transthoracic (TTE), transesophageal (TEE), 3-dimentional (3D), and fetal echocardiography or cross-sectional imaging, including cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) and computerized tomography (CT). Training will include advanced pediatric and adult congenital echo scanning, fetal echo or cross-sectional imaging, counseling of fetal cardiac disease, professional development, and academic pursuits including teaching and research.

Upon successful completion of the program, the graduated fellow will have a mature understanding of the use of noninvasive cardiac imaging techniques in providing diagnosis and assessment of congenital and acquired heart disease. Additionally, the graduated fellow will demonstrate clinical independence in advanced pediatric and adult congenital cardiac echo scanning and interpretation.

Curricula & Schedules

The following breakdown provides the weekly commitment for the academic year:

  • 1.5-2 days per week of TTE/TEE
  • 1.5-2 days per week of fetal echocardiography/fetal clinic or CMR/CT
  • .5 days per week in outpatient clinic
  • .5 days per week of research time
  • .5 days per week of academic time
  • Opportunities for inpatient rounding and call responsibilities
